Hello all! This is my first fic that isn't made up of 100 word drabbles so I thought I'd share it with the wider Firefly fanfic community. I hope you enjoy it.

Title: A River Turned to Dust

Summary: "You could just be dreaming that you’re awake and you’re actually talking to yourself in your sleep." She reasoned, snuggling back into the curve of his body. Feeling her shiver, he clicked his tongue like a mother hen and pulled the blankets tighter around them. His arms were warm bands pressing her protectively against his chest. She frowned. Something was off.
Rating: between PG-13 and R, T on the ESRB scale.
Characters: Academy doctor, Jayne, River
Pairing: Written with River/Jayne in mind but if you ignore the one mention of a goatee, you can pretty much imagine the guy to be whoever you want.
WARNING: Explicit description of eyeballs being punctured. Best not read the second to last paragraph if you're squeamish. Also includes shirtless-ness and implied nudity.
Spoilers/Timeline: Pre-series, or if you like bending your mind, post-BDM.

When I wrote "Old Warriors", I intended as a one-shot. I left it very open-ended, which apparently hooked some folks and annoyed the hell out of others. I'm not typically a "write on demand" sort, and initially declined the requests for more story and more answers. I LIKE being a tease. However, it's become clear that my muse is a SLUT.

So, for those folks who asked for the tussle, the aftermath and some answers -- They're coming. Mind you, you may not like the answers you get. Trust me, my muse isn't that much of a slut and I ain't writing it over! Mouse-over for Chinese. Please let me know what you think.
