Well, here we are. This is an imported community from livejournal that originated waaaaaaay back in October of 2003. Our purpose is to be a home for any kind of Firefly/Serenity fanfic.
After the latest updates on LJ, I've imported us over here because I was worried about us possibly getting TOSed over there.
This is a static copy of everything that was on the LJ comm as of April 2017, but I would love if it became a fully functional DW community in its own right.
So please feel free to join and post your Firefly fic. Any ratings, any pairings, it's all welcome here!

Buffyverse Top 5 Opens in 2 Weeks!
Oct. 5th, 2021 03:55 pmyourlibrarianIt's time to pick out your costume, start carving those pumpkins, and decide on goodies to share because it's almost time for the 2021 session of Buffyverse Top 5!
That means recs for all fanworks in the Whedon fandoms. Our kickoff is on October 22, 2019 at midnight UTC (click here for your time zone). The session will run across Halloween in all timezones and close on November 2 midnight UTC.
For anyone who has questions about how things will go, please comment here or you can check out information on what to post during a Buffyverse Top 5 session.

We are 13 days away from the kickoff of the first annual all-in-one buffyversetop5 session which will open at Midnight GMT on October 24 and run until Midnight GMT on November 2. As in the past, this Halloween session will be open for Classic Recs. But we're also going to have a new event -- FlashForward Weekend, October 27 and 28, for your 2018 recs!

This means five days for you to bring your all-time favorite recs of fics, vids, graphics, anything and everything fandom has produced in all the Whedon fandoms! All time periods before 2017 are eligible for posting and, as always, crossover content is A-OK, so get those lists ready!
We also want to alert anyone already familiar with us that following the movement of many people to Dreamwidth, either primarily or exclusively, we are encouraging posts to thebuffyversetop5 account here. So we hope to see names old and new here soon! Let us know if you have any questions.

Apr. 13th, 2017 03:01 pmvirtualinsomniaIn light of recent changes around LJ land, we will soon be importing this community to DreamWidth as a backup. I didn't want to risk over a decade of Firefly-themed fic posts being lost if the worst happens.
For the curious, firefly-fanfic.dreamwidth.org is our eventual destination (alas, our exact name was already taken over there).
If anyone does not wish their posts to get imported to DW, you will need to go in and delete them. Eiither do so here on LJ beforehand or on DW afterwards using the OpenID identity account that corresponds to the post in question. Anyone who wants to delete their posts is welcome to, though I hope most people won't because it'd be sad to lose any fic.
The import should happen within the next few days, though I can't give an exact date since it depends on the DW import queue.
Once the imported archive is live on DW, it will be a static copy of things over here as they are now. The only way to update with any new LJ posts is to do a re-import. We don't get nearly as much traffic around here as we used to, so I don't see that being necessary for a while. Firefly Fanfic #2: Comfort

A soft glow illuminated River’s room. She lay awake, staring at the ceiling, singing to herself.
“Two by two, hands of blue,
Watch out, now they’re coming for you.
Stay asleep, in your bed,
Or you will sleep with the dead.”
Again.
And again.
She heard the screams of those pulled from their cots in the middle of the night. How they struggled in vain. The bolt of pain before they died.
A leg bumped her cot.
She jerked, eyes clenching shut.
“River?”
Simon.
She stared as he sat on the edge of her bed. She blinked hard to confirm his corporealism.
But her eyes had betrayed her before.
She reached out to take his hand. It wasn’t blue.
“I heard you singing,” he said, brushing the hair from her face.
“They come out of the black,” she whispered. Anyone could be next.
Simon glanced down at their hands, clasped together.
“I can give you something to sleep,” he said. There was sadness in his tone, but hope, too. Hope that he could help. She felt it flow through his hand, into hers. Comforting.
“Okay,” she said, eyes filling with tears. “Help me sleep.”
Firefly Fanfic #1: Two Birds

“I have some Propoxyn.”
Simon glanced up from his neat row of stitches for a sign that she’d heard him. There was none. Her eyes remained distant.
Then, slowly, her hands rose to the height of her shoulder.
He handed her the clamp and curved needle, careful to avoid pulling on the sutures as he did so. She took them. He removed his gloves and opened the nearest drawer.
It wasn’t a large bullet wound, but if he ever found the thug responsible, he’d pay Jayne to do what Jayne did best. Quietly. Permanently.
River’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
“He didn’t mean to hurt her.”
Simon retrieved the vial and syringe. He closed the drawer with more force than necessary.
“But he did.”
“Inconsistent barometric pressure and wind speed contributed to inaccurate bullet penetration.” River looked over at him. “He was aiming for you.”
“I know,” Simon said. “I’m still not sure he missed.”

But I’m quite happy with what did come, so I’m going with it. Maybe some day I’ll try and redo the prompt. Or, you know, you could give me another ;) I used a bit of a different style on this one, one I’ve used a few times before and was reminded of while reading ‘The Killer Angels’. I like it. I also just discovered that Unification Day falls on Mal’s birthday, September 20th. Is there nothing the ‘Verse won’t take from this man? ;) I’m curious to know what you think of the title? The words just came to me, like someone else was speaking them.
