I'm planning on making a backup of the whole archive that will remain offline for now, and it will be updated once a week or so. I already have the framework for this in place, and a backup from back in May when this whole thing with LJ went down the first time. (Say thanks to the awesome [livejournal.com profile] kernelm for making this happen!)

I don't want to actually make a full-on secondary archive online until I'm forced to, as this will be a huge amount of work, I'm sure. However, I would like to try and reserve our name at the service of our choice. That way, should the worst happen, you guys will already know exactly where the archive will turn back up.

So, to that end, a poll...

An LJ comm made to help people who are planning to move. It has an entire thread devoted to getting people JournalFen invites if they want them.

Oh, and it goes without saying that I hope we're NEVER forced to move, yes? This is just worst case scenario planning. I intend to try and keep us here on LJ for as long as humanly possible.

Although JF is a fandom-centered service, since it's so hard to get a free account, I would suggest against it. What good is a archive if no one can post in it?

I see GJ is doing well, just want to say that because GJ does not offer paid accounts, they are unable to provide service upgrades, etc. for a larger user base. Also, it is run on totally donated time and they rarely get back to any emails sent to them. It's more of a "hobby" over there than a love.

I don't know if you have been watching other lj'ers blogs, but this one was one of the more down to earth responses, and I tend to agree with her points: http://hannasus.livejournal.com/106024.html
So, yeah... well anyways. Whatever you decide to do will be fine by me, just wanted you to have more information to... collate >;0)

There is a link to another post in the first comment of the link I sent you that I highly recommend as well. It has value for informational purposes and it is nice to see less, shall we say, energetic, responses to the whole kerfuffle. I am a pragmatist onmany things- this is one of them. I have done no wrong other than the obvious illegality of fanfic as a whole, beyond that I am not culpable and I trend towards thinking that is true of most of us.

I prefer GJ for my own purposes, but I have GJ, IJ and JF accounts. If you aren't planning on posting the archive there yet, it might be worth trying to get the name at more than one site. Then you could see where the majority of people from the fandom end up should migration occur.
