Title: Distraction
Author: Clelie
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Jayne, River
Pairing: Rayne (shock!)
Warning: Err...fluff?
Spoilers/Timeline: Post-BDM, no spoilers
Disclaimer: Joss' babies, not mine
Author's Note: Not part of a series, but would fit in with my other Rayne ficlets here in my writing lj
River’s sitting on Jayne’s bed, knitting something that Jayne can‘t identify.
“Jayne, we have to get married,” she announces.
“Like hell we do,” he grunts, biting into his apple.
River’s eyes grow wide.
“You love me, don’t you?”
“Yeah,” Jayne answers, matter-of-factly. “But that ain’t got a gorram thing to do with marriage.”
“What about our children?”
“What?”
Jayne drops his apple and turns to face River.
“You…you ain’t…” he stammers.
River gives him the “you’re a dumbass” look.
“Jesus Christ in heaven, girl. Don’t scare me like that.”
“You don’t want kids?”
“Well…sure, sometime, I guess…”
“We’re not getting any younger,” River sings, knitting again.
Jayne says nothing to that, because it only reminds him what a young thing River is.
“I don’t understand why you wanna be tied down to an old man like me.”
River puts away her needles.
“Do you really think I’m younger than you?”
“You sure don’t look like any forty-year-old women I know.”
“You’re not forty.”
“Close.”
“I want to be your wife.”
“You’re crazy.”
“It’s the general consensus.”
Jayne takes hold of River’s waist and pulls her onto his lap. She smiles and kisses him.
“You’re not winning this argument,” she whispers.
“At least I can drag it out,” he answers, running a hand up her thigh.
“How do you plan on doing that?”
“Distraction,” he says.
River gasps, because Jayne is good at distracting.
