This was my first effort for
ff_friday, for last week's challenge. It was painful trimming it; I love words and I write uncontrollably, which always makes word-limit challenges anxious for me. Response and con crit is gladly welcomed. Please let me know what you think!
darkness, light, darkness
characters: Simon (his parents, River, Kaylee, Wash)
pairings: Simon/Kaylee (NOT a pairing-centric story)
rating: PG-13 (for safety)
words: 1000 (wince)
challenge: #127 Darkness
disclaimer: Like Billy Joel, I didn't start the Firefly.
notes: I hope Jan Svankmajer fans (you know you're out there, don't hide) enjoy the title and the recollections it brings of eyeballs in disembodied hands (actually one of my favorite filmic visions). Also, Emily Dickenson followers, I stole one of her beautiful phrases, a fingerprint for its poem. Point it out and you'll earn a smile.
He builds, one strand at a time, slowly rising, falling, like the shoreline or a sigh. Click to read "darkness, light, darkness"
