hello all.
THis is a prompt that i ahve had in my head in awhile.
Earth that was was left because there was som mant people right. Did everbody leave are were their folks left behind? It takes time to bring people to ships and send them to another galxey, and there are unregistered and unkown people everywhere. So 500 years in the futrue what is life like to those who were left behind on earth that was?

the visual companion talks about it a little -- that it took a very very long time to even reach the new galaxy, an entire generation was born and died travelling there. I got the impression that the only people left behind on earth were those who wouldn't survive long anyways. the earth was used up -- there was little left to support a population. I figured that once that generation on earth died out, that was it. maybe it's regenerating and once they use up the firefly universe they'll head back to earth :)

This has intrigued me too! I can think of many possibilities: earth is totally uninhabitable now. It's able to support the smaller remaining pop. They actually grew so big again that other groups had to set out for other solar systems. Who knows.

Good question! This is one of my theories about what Joss might have in store for a sequel (we will get one, dammit!). I think it's the next big secret that River is carrying. It could go many ways, but I think the Alliance has misled everyone again (could be nothing was wrong with Earth-that-was or, what I've always thought, it wasn't used up, but a horrible nuclear war occurred).

I've only read one fic that approached this subject, would like to know if there are any others. Anyone???
