Summary: A drabble about the nights after the events in “Serenity” (the movie). SPOILERS.
Author’s Notes: Written for my Zoe claim atletter_love.
She heard him in her sleep. I’m a leaf on the wind. So cocky and confident and dead. The nightmares only came when she heard him. She could tell when they were coming but she couldn’t stop them. Watch how I soar. Her nightmares were cast in red, like the emergency lights on the bridge, broken glass spilling across the console like her tears. She’d sit there and watch him, harpoon sticking out of his chest, until she couldn’t stand it anymore; in her nightmares, she couldn’t get out of her chair, couldn’t go to him. She woke up tangled in the sheets of an empty bed.
