Her name will be in the next part I swear. I probably should have waited until the next piece was done to post. Sorry again. Feedback Helps.

Jayne heard the noise of at least a dozen female screams before he registered an absence of pain. His eyes flew open to see the room had erupted in panic as the crowd was making a scramble to get to the nearest exit. He felt relief knowing he wasn’t shot but he wondered if anyone else had. His question was answered when his eyes caught the body of the female who had just about shot him laying on the floor, her bloodied hand pressed against her abs. Without thinking Jayne found himself kneeling beside her. She was struggling for breath and a heavy sheen of sweat was appearing on her forehead. He was having an eerie sense of déjà vu seeing her like he saw Kaylee when she was shot. He tried to gently move her hand off the wound so he could see the damage but she grunted, jerking away from him.
“I was shot.” She stated painfully. She felt the need to cry but the fire from below her ribs was sucking up her energy to even move.

“I can see that.” He replied kindly, trying to asses her options.
“Ain’t no reason to look then.” She grunted again, stifling a fresh wave of agony.
“You need a doctor.” He muttered, noticing the blood pouring from between her fingers. He didn’t know where one was in this town and it looked like she wasn’t going to be any help getting him to one. The only one he knew was Simon but would Simon even help her? Only one way to find out, he thought hopefully.
“This hurts.” She ignored his statement as she fought to keep her eyes open. It felt like her eyelids were dipped in honey as she struggled to keep them open. She knew in the back of her mind if she fell asleep there was a good chance she wasn’t going to wake up.

“Getting shot usually does.” He told her before he slid one arm under her neck while the other one slipped under her knees. “I’ll get you to a doctor.”
“I’ve been shot before, wasn’t like this.” she groaned, biting her lip to choke back a scream. He walked with her cradled in his arms as she bled down his shirt. He made his way to the outskirts of the little podunk city within no time. He heard her breath rattling in her lungs as the last of the color was wiped from her face.
“Suppose you start bar fights too.” He teased with little humor in his voice. There’s going to be hell to pay for this, he thought as Serenity came into his view. Her eyes closed as his voice barely managed to carry through the humming in her ears.
“Always.” She whispered before she went limp in his arms. He knew she wasn’t dead yet, he could still feel her ragged breathing against his chest but it was getting worse as he walked on.

He quickly closed the distance between him and the ship, where he hoped he could get help. Kaylee was sitting just outside in the sun when he walked up. Her face was filled with alarm when she saw all the blood.
“Jayne what happened?” She asked immediately.
“I need Simon.” He expressed urgently. She nodded as she lead him to the infirmary. It was a relief to him when he saw only Simon and River in there.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Simon demanded confused when he saw the mercenary laying the unconscious body on the chair.
“Bullet wound. I didn’t know where else to bring her.” He explained tersely.
“I can’t just operate on any stray you bring in here. Mal wouldn’t agree.” He replied stiffly.
“I’ll pay you for your precious time but right now she’s dying, are you just gonna let her?” He asked hotly as he felt his jaw tightening. Simon only frowned as he quickly searched for the proper medical tools. He could deal with Mal later he thought.
“Dragon slayer.” River mumbled as she walked to stand next him, staring at the female as her brother began to retrieve the bullet. Jayne gave her sideways glance but remained silent not wanting to listen to moon brain talk.
“A knight in tarnished armor.” She added before Simon asked Kaylee to escort his sister away. It was silent for a few minutes after they were alone. Jayne was getting more nervous as the silence was drawn out.
“How did this happen?” Simon inquired eventually as he placed the now retrieved bullet on the tray.

“Bar fight.” he answered gruffly.
“Looks like someone didn’t know the rules.” He stated dryly as he began to stitch up the wound. “What’s her name?”
Jayne shrugged at a loss. “Everything happened so fast I didn’t get a chance to ask.”

“Smart.” Simon frowned, his tone sarcastic.
“She gonna be ok?” He asked concerned, ignoring the doctor’s sniping tone.

“Hard to say right now.”
Jayne could still see she was having a tough time breathing, her chest rising and falling jaggedly while her skin had a gray tint now but the slow curve of her bottom lip was a pale blue. Jayne felt helpless standing there, watching as Simon patched her up. He finally registered the sickening stickiness of his shirt and the dried blood on his hands.
“I’ll be in my bunk.” He told the brunette sourly before he stomped away, almost pushing Wash and Zoe over when he passed.

“What’s his deal?” Wash asked as he lead his wife in by the elbow. “What happened?…Wait. Who is this?” He added tone shifting from concern to confusion in the space of a single blink.

“Jayne got into a bar fight, his little friend here got shot.” Simon said curtly.
“Mal’s not going to like this.” Zoe cautioned as she sat on a near by chair.

“Is there anything wrong?” Simon asked, giving the first mate a once over incase he missed any physical signs of alarm.

“Just here for the regular check up, doc. Gotta make sure Lamby toes jr. is doing ok.” Wash
“We are still not naming the baby Rex.” Zoe censured with a warm smile.

“It’s a good name.” Wash argued seriously.

“What if it’s a girl, husband?” She reasoned with a laugh.

“Rexanne?” The blonde suggested amused.

“Do you want us to come back later?” Zoe asked Simon closing the exasperating conversation with her husband for now.

“No, it shouldn’t take long and I was just checking her vitals.” he explained, removing the latex gloves.
“Is she gonna be ok?” Wash asked gesturing to the girl on the chair.

“She should be.” He said uncertain as he placed the stethoscope against Zoe’s chest.
