Title: Of Love and Risk
Author: smurf
Summary: Was nothing
Rating: R (R overall)
Characters: Mal, Zoë, Wash (mention of Jayne, Kaylee, Inara)
Pairings: Zoë/Wash, Mal/Zoë (het)
Spoilers/Timeline: for BDM and "War Stories", set during the war, continuation of Part 4.
Disclaimer: Not mine, I just like to test drive.
Archive: Please don't
Words: 170 (Total 7,900)
Author's Note: This particular part is tiny, but it just didn't fit nicely with the one before or after so it's gonna stand alone. Story is now all written, will be posted as I clean and edit (so faster). There is often a method to my madness.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6
In the chilled night Zoë and Serge hung to each other, creating a world a warmth all their own. Somewhere she knew a line had been crossed, was about to be thrown to the wind. She could feel her skin crawl with need.
Serge's hands roamed on her back. She could feel his lips on her neck where moments before his tears had fallen. He lifted his face to look at hers, and she could see every feature of it in the pale light.
"He's dead ain't he? Brien."
She managed to nod, and wondered if the cold would ever truly go away. "You know what this is... Mal?" Zoë couldn't love him, just wasn't capable of it.
He nodded. "Doesn't change a thing."
When he dipped to kiss her, she replied in kind. Company fuck was the term for it, sexual needs acted on when the emotional connection didn't exist. He needed to act on his grief, she needed to remember what warmth was, that was all it was, that was all it ever could be.
