Hadn't caught that in Buffy. I'm still getting caught up on Buffy in re-runs on FX. I never watched it the first time around, since I was too busy being a college student to watch much TV. Had to spend my evenings at IHOP, after all, instead of studying. :) Oh, well. If that's the only Buffy/Angel canon I get wrong, I'll be happy.
While I'm thinking of vampire canon in the Whedonverse, I'm going to assume the only places Angel would need an invitation would be the private bunks, the ones down the ladders, and not the passenger dorms. The ship and the passenger dorms, like Angel's, Simon's and River's rooms are considered public lodgings, even if they are being lived in long-term. He didn't need Mal's invitation to board Serenity, he was simply being polite.
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate the constructive criticism. I'm also happy you like what you've read so far. Shiny!
