He pays him and he pays him well. Ten percent straight off the top.
He isn't stupid enough to believe that Jayne wouldn't bail him out to the nearest feds or space pirates if the money was good enough. No matter how long they've been on the same crew, no matter how long they've been slipping into each other's bunks at night.
And he knows it's stupid, but some part of him, some gorramn stupid sentimental part of him refuses to let go, wants Jayne to stay on his boat and occasionally in his bed.
So he pays him.
And he pays him well.
