People think the captain’s face is hard to read, not for River though.
They have the same face, pains melted away every mask good and bad leaving only being behind.
It makes them different from others; their faces show what is, nothing else.
On Mal’s face you can see authority, impatience, concern, and contentment when he stares into the black.
On River’s one sees joy, fear, confusion, and anger; but they don’t connect to things, those men took that away.
People don’t know what they see when there’s no masks.
Funny how she and Mal scare the others so much.

Thanks for the phrase! I write for so many fandoms that I'm getting starved to really bite into a long or serial one of my two favorites (Firefly and Supernatural).
I have some experience in my life with the severely dysfunctional and I've noticed that when people are dissociative or unable to socialize (i.e. masks) that they are often very disturbing to deal with.
I've rely liked your critics, would you like to friend. You've always been positive, but you also have taken the time to be constructive and I really appreciate that. I want to grow up to be the best writer I can be.
